Clinical and Demographic Determinants of Cognitive Disorders in Multiple Sclerosis Patients

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, (auto) immune disease of the central nervous system (CNS). The aim study was to determine distribution cognitive disorders in MS relation demographic parameters, degree clinical disability and depression. prospective included 135 subjects with Clinic Neurology University Clinical Center Tuzla. first group consisted women (101 respondents) second men (34 respondents). assessment instruments were: Expanded Disability Status Scale Score, Mini Mental Status, Beck Depression Scale, Battery Cognitive Function Assessment Tests: Wechsler Intelligence Revised Beta Test, Raven Coloured Progressive Matrix, Memory Verification Audio Test learning, Rey-Osterriecht complex character test, verbal fluency test. There were no significant differences between mentioned groups age, level education, duration disease, severity symptoms or prevalence certain forms MS. are present 40-60 % Visuospatial, visuoconstructive, visuoperceptive functions, mnestic functions most affected both respondents. difference depression sex. Poor results parameters 32.7 can be considered cause high scores EDSS female patients 29.2 patients, which not statistically significant. correlation positive but sexes. heterogeneous regardless impairment related working ability memory, executive attention. Subjects more severe had poorer functions.
